King's Golf Course

Well-known golf architect Donald Harradine redesigned the 18-hole championship course in 1972. His masterful achievement successfully incorporates all its natural features. The fact that golfers may have to use every club in their bag is evidence of the rich diversity of playing surfaces and so it's no wonder that players return again and again.

The course, which is set in a necklace of Slovenia's highest mountains, is reminiscent of a park. Golfers walking down a fairway or from one hole to the next through sunny woodlands enjoy the fresh mountain air and marvellous views of the Julian Alps, the Karavanke range, Mount Jelovica and the more distant Kamnik Alps. The mighty Stol (2,236m), the highest peak of the Karavanke Alps adds special charm. The overall experience creates an indelible impression on visitors and suffuses them with energy.

History
After the First World War, the then Yugoslav king Aleksander Karadjordjević chose Bled as his summer residence, attracting wealthy guests and nobility from all over Europe.

The royal family and the diplomatic community suggested that a golf course should be built in Bled in 1937. Thus Bled golf course is the cradle of Slovenian golf and one of the oldest courses in this part of Europe. As soon as it opened, connoisseurs declared it to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, as at every step golfers are offered magnificent views of beautiful scenery.

The course was abandoned during the Second World War, regaining its original prestige only in 1972.
